Our GD students take home Gold and Silver at the 2020 Addy Awards!
Graphic Design 2020 senior, Anna Kiesewetter won a Gold Addy award from the Toledo American Advertising Federation (AAF) on Thursday, February 20, whereby only 12 of the 160 submissions were recognized with the distinction of Gold. This recognition wasfor her work, Strive: BGSUGD/AIGA Portfolio Review Day Materials, created through an Independent Study (ARTD4700) in Spring 2019 with Associate Professor and GD division chair Jenn Stucker. Anna’s work included concept strategy, brand identity, promotional poster, wayfinding, name badges, sign-up sheets and digital promotions. As a gold winner, her work will automatically advance to the Regional AAF Competition. Congratulations and good luck Anna!
2019 graduate Emily Feaster was awarded a Silver Addy for Into The Depths created through her 2019 Graphic Design Senior Thesis courses (ARTD 4070.) Her work addressed shark fishing and shark finning, which has caused an extreme population decline of this apex predator. This practice cuts off a shark’s fin while still alive and discards the animal back into the ocean solely for the purpose of making shark fin soup, which is a delicacy in east Asian countries. In response to this global problem Emily exploited the soup bowl shape and visual style to create and sell hand-crafted ceramic bowls decorated with ceramic decals from original hand drawn illustrations of sharks. Each bowl was packaged in a designed laser-etched box with a special thank you and brochure containing research information about this important issue. Proceeds from the sale of the bowls went to The Mote Marine Laboratory. To develop her signature work, Emily worked with several BGSU GD faculty members as well as Ceramics professor John Balisteri.
The BGSU GD faculty is proud of these students and their contribution to the program’s excellence.
